Welcome our new intern Úna O'Shea

Dia Duit!

My name is Úna O’Shea and I will be joining the IJCC as a Marketing and Communications intern. I’m excited to learn more about the Chamber and get involved in the work.

For the past year, I have been living and working in Japan as an ALT with the JET programme. I am really enjoying this role, in particular how I can be a representative of my home country, Ireland.

Prior to coming to Japan, I lived and studied in the Netherlands for almost 4 years. Here, I had the opportunity to study Japanese and the culture, politics, and economics of East Asia. I became very interested in cultural exchange, particularly through food, and how this occurs in both casual and formal situations. As a tea enthusiast, the differences in tea cultures around the world are especially interesting to me, and the difference between Irish and Japanese tea culture is very apparent.

In my free time, I enjoy reading and exploring my local area. As a teen, it was through Japanese literature and poetry that I first became interested in learning the language. Although it's been almost a year since I arrived here, I am still discovering new and exciting things about my rural corner of Japan.

I’m looking forward to getting started as the Marketing and Communications intern, and I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity.
