In recent years, Japan’s SME market has faced significant challenges, including an aging business owner demographic, succession difficulties, and labor shortages. With over 99% of Japanese enterprises classified as SMEs, their sustainability is crucial to the country’s economic stability.

The Danish Chamber of Commerce in Japan (DCCJ), in collaboration with the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Japan (CCIFJ), the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC), and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Japan (SCCJ), is pleased to invite you to an exclusive seminar presented by the M&A advisory firm Pear Capital. The seminar will explore the evolving landscape of mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in Japan’s small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector.

According to reports from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, by 2025, approximately 2.45 million SME owners will be over 70 years old. Among them, about half—approximately 1.27 million—are expected to have no designated successor. As a result, M&A has become an increasingly vital solution for ensuring business continuity, facilitating growth, and fostering international collaboration.

With over 15 years of experience, Satoru Tanaka, the representative director of Pear Capital, will lead the seminar, providing an in-depth analysis of the unique challenges and emerging opportunities in Japan's SME M&A market.

本セミナーでは、株式会社ペアキャピタル代表取締役である田中哲が登壇し、在日デンマーク商工会議所（DCCJ）、在日フランス商工会議所（CCIFJ）、在日アイルランド日本商工会議所（IJCC）、在日スウェーデン商工会議所（SCCJ）の会員様、日本へのビジネス進出を目指す海外企業の経営者様、日本法人の駐在員様、日本で起業している外国籍の方々を対象に、日本の中小企業M&A市場の実態と最新動向について解説いたします。

M&Aの増加は世界的な趨勢となっており、特に1990年代以降、増加が顕著であります。そんな中、日本の中小企業市場では、経営者の高齢化、事業承継の困難化、事業運営上の人手不足などが大きな社会課題になっています。日本企業の99%以上を占める中小企業の存続は、日本経済の安定にとって極めて重要です。

中小企業庁の報告によると、2025年には約245万社の中小企業・小規模事業者の経営者が70歳以上となる見込みであり、そのうち約半数の127万(日本企業全体の1/3)が後継者未定と予測されています（※1）。このような状況からM&Aは事業承継、成長促進、国際提携の有力な解決手段としてますます重要性を増しています。
