Event Report: Women's Breakfast Activity #6
We had a fantastic turnout for this edition of the WWBA series - with 11 IJCC women gathered at the historic Meiji Kinenkan. A fun morning with great food, historical venue, and diverse company. The discussions ranged from topics from the book "How Women Rise", to the challenges and benefits of growing up in Irish-Japanese families. A great morning and for some, followed by a great afternoon at IJCC pub member An SÓLÁS!
Thanks to Yukino de Roest from the IJCC DEI Committee for organizing the event and for highlighting and educating us on the significance of Meiji Kinenkan as a key site in modern Japanese history. The Meiji Kinenkan was established in 1881 and served as the location for meetings to draft the Meiji Constitution, the Japan's first modern constitution. Some features of the historic garden carried messages relevant to DEI, such as the sazare-ishi (pictured). This is a rock monument which made from many smaller stones of different shapes and sizes piled together – symbolically reminding us of the power and results of diversity.
